The Philles left Cincinnati today after a 5-3 win to earn a split of the 4 games weekend series with the Reds. Cole Hamels got his first win of the seaosn and Brad Lidge his first save. Hamels went 7 innings allowing 1 earned run with Tom Gordon pithcing the 8th inning and Lidge came on in the 9th for the Phillies. Pat Burrell blasted 2 homers to lead the Phillies offense while Jimmy Rollins and Geoff Jenkins added to the lojng ball totals. The Phillies improved to 3-4 on the season and are now off to face the Mets in New York tomorrow afternoon.

The 76ers clinched their first playoff berth in 3 years last night in Atlanta. Andre Iguodala led the way with 30 points in a stellar performance while Andre Miller tossed in 24 points for the winners. Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 32 points and Atlanta still has a good shot at making the playoffs, The Sixers remain the comeback team of the year in the NBA. If you would have said in mid-February that they would make the playoffs there would have been a lot of skeptics. Coach Maurice Cheeks has turned this team completely around in a short period of time. The Kyle Korver trade combined with the arrival of Ed Stefanski as GM and his orde rto play the younger players has been key to this turn around in Philadelphia.

The 76ers moved a step closer to a playoff spot when they traveled to New Jersey and beat the Nets tonight 108-99. Andre Miller led the way with 24 point while Andre Iguodala added 17 points. Vince Carter led the Nets with 29 points who are all but out of the playoff race after tonights loss. The Sixers are a game over 500 and are playing the best basketball of the season at the perfect time. This team has been hot for the last couple of months and are very exciting to watch. The young players have been given an opportunity to play and are using every minute Coach Cheeks plays them to create excitement.
