The Phillies beat Flordia tonight behind the 2 hit pitching of veteran Jamie Moyer. They really needed this kind of pitching effort from their starter tonight. Moyer was simply magnificent as he baffled the Marlin hitters with changeups and curve balls all night. He went 8 innings allowing just the 2 hits and 0 walks. Easily his best outing of the season. Moyer raised his record to a solid 7-3 and is top starter for a rotation that has pithced well all season except for Brett Myers. The win for the Phillies was important after dropping the first two games in the series. They are now 4-2 on the road trip and are headed to St.Louis for a weekend series. The will not have to face the Cardinals top pitcher in Adam Wainwright or Albert Pujols who was just put on the disabled list yesterday. The Phillies could not have expected Moyer to be as sharp as he has thus far. Every win they get out of his 45-year old arm is a bonus and just having him around the clubhouse is a positive influence on any team. We’re just glad to have him in Philadelphia.

After a 7-3 loss to Flordia on Saturday night that dropped them back into 2nd place the Phillies rallied to beat the Marlins 7-5 on Sunday. Jamie Moyer got the win to improve to 6-3 on the season. He now leads all Phillies starters in victories. Chase Utley continued his hot streak with his major league leading 20th home run while Geoff Jenkins hit a pinch home un to tie the game at 5-5. Pat Burrel’s two run double in the bottom of the 7th inning was the game winner. Brad Lidge pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning to get his 13th save of the year. The win put the Phillies back in first a 1/2 game ahead of the Marlins.

The Philies offense continues to roll as they put up 12 mores runs last night in a victory over Florida to take over first place in the N.L. East. The Marlins tokk a 3-0 lead in the first off of starter Brett Myers who could not locate the plate and was very timid in his approach. Myers’ confidence was very shaky from the start and he is relying on his curve ball in too many key situations. Chase Utley tied the game at 3-3 with a 3-run shot and the Phillies bats were off to the races. They put upĀ 4 more runs in the 2nd innning to take a 7-3 lead and never looked back. Chris Coste and Ryan Howard also homered in the win and Myers settled in to strike out 11 over 8 innings. This was by far his best outling in May and will hopefully give him the confidence he is looking for going forward.

Coming off a great sweep of the Mets at home the week before the Phils sputter when they meet the Braves and Marlins going 2-4 this week. The bullpen took a beating playing a large part in every loss. This unit has to tighten it up or we can forget about the Playoffs.

Well September is the time to make a run if the Phillies are going to make one this year. It is clear that this team has a hunger. They swept the all four games from the Mets and picked up 6 victories this week. Great Job.

The Phillies drop this one 4-8 to the Fish. In the 7th they walked 4 times and only score 1 run, just sad. This time we left a season high 28 on base! The catchers Ruiz and Barajas let a combined 10! The only two really playing well on offense are Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell both batting over .300. We start off 0-3 to the Braves and 1-2 to the Marlins. Here comes the Mets!

Well our one win was short lived because the D-Train Dontrelle Willis put an end to the party. It was not a 3 hit shutout gem but it was enough to drop the Phils to 1-4. Willis struck out 9 in 6 innings and the Marlins put up runs all game. Once again in the man lest on base area, Howard left 5 and the Phils as a team lost that stat too 20-16.

We got our first win of the season 8-2 in Florida! Pat Burrell and Jamie Moyer proved to be the stoppers. Florida’s fielding helped too as the Phillies scored 4 unearned. I like the men left on base stat, Utley left 3 more out there. The Phillies as a team left only 14on base compared to 27 the other day.
